The plot follows Sean Boswell (played by Lucas Black), a rebellious teenager and gifted mechanic from Alabama who is sent to live with his estranged father in Tokyo to avoid a jail sentence for illegal street racing in the United States. In this unfamiliar world, where he doesn't speak the language and feels like an outcast, Sean discovers the underground world of drift racing.
