Directed by Milton Krims, the film was shot entirely on location in Italy, utilizing historic castles and the legendary Cinecittà Studios in Rome. To maximize international appeal, the movie was shot in Pathecolor, a vivid color process that beautifully captured the lush Italian landscapes and the extravagant, ornate costume designs.
