After the songs, as the festival lights dwindled and the crowd dispersed, Meera and Ravi walked along the bund. The moon lay low — a pale boat on black water. Ravi spoke softly: he had recorded songs in the city but had never found one that made his heart settle like these old tunes. Meera reached for a stray jasmine in her hair and tucked it behind his ear. They made no grand promises; there was no need. Under the moonlight they made a simple pact to keep singing together, to carry their music where it was needed.
