Adductor Magnus Muscle
When the hip is flexed (such as at the bottom of a deep squat or during the initial phase of sprinting), the fibers of the adductor magnus sit posterior to the hip joint axis. In this position, it acts as a massive hip extensor, assisting the gluteus maximus and hamstrings.
The adductor magnus is a large, triangular muscle situated on the medial side of the thigh. It lies deep to the gracilis and adductor longus muscles, and anterior to the hamstring group. Because of its massive size and dual innervation, it is structurally and functionally divided into two distinct portions: the adductor (pubofemoral) portion and the hamstring (ischiocondylar) portion.
