A GPU that supports inherently supports Shader Model 5.0 and vice-versa within the context of DirectX 11 hardware. You will rarely find a GPU that supports one but not the other. In fact, all Feature Level 11_0 hardware from the major vendors (NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel) is built around Shader Model 5.0. If DxDiag does not show 11_0 , you have reached a hard limit. A feature level is a hardware capability, not a software feature. You cannot "install" Feature Level 11_0 on a GPU that only supports 10_1. The only solution is a hardware upgrade. A GPU that supports inherently supports Shader Model 5
