Websites like xResolver claim to have databases containing millions of gamertags paired with IP addresses. For instance, xResolver’s homepage states they have resolved close to 25 million accounts. The data comes from third‑party packet sniffers such as OctoSniff, which has been used by hundreds of thousands of people. When a user runs OctoSniff while in a party or game lobby, the tool captures the IP addresses of every other player in that session and automatically submits them to the central database. According to one industry source, this means that even if you have never run a resolver tool yourself, your IP address can be logged simply by playing a match with someone who is running one.
