When you replace a hardware module in a VAG vehicle—such as an infotainment unit, a digital instrument cluster, an air conditioning controller, or a radar sensor—the car will immediately place that module into a restricted "Component Protection" state. The module will either refuse to turn on, or function with severely limited features.
