An HDcam (or Cam) is a recording of a screen, usually made in a movie theater or, in this case, by recording a computer screen during an early/leaked stream. The quality is terrible, often having distorted audio, blurry visuals, and sometimes, people walking in front of the screen.
The episode also plays heavily with the theme of deception. While Joe is spying on Ellie and investigating Forty’s Hollywood connections, he is also lying to Love about his identity and his past.
